Ethan Ampadu turns into agent as Leeds United move sold to Harry Wilson

Published on

Ethan Ampadu may just hold they key to Leeds United pulling off one of the signings of the summer in Fulham's Harry Wilson.

Wilson tailed off towards the end of the 2025-26 season but still scored 10 goals and assisted seven more in 36 Premier League appearances.

The Wales international is out of contract at Craven Cottage next month, though Fulham confirmed on Monday he has been offered a new deal.

It is now down to Wilson whether he signs that, but the forward is certainly not short of other options.

Leeds are one of the sides to have been linked with Wilson, and they may have a helping hand in Ampadu.

The Whites' skipper has already told Wilson all about Leeds in his attempt to convince his international colleague to join.

What has Ethan Ampadu told Harry Wilson about Leeds?

Ampadu, who last week signed a new four-year deal at Elland Road, was asked about Leeds' interest in Wilson by The Athletic.

More specifically, Ampadu was asked if he is trying to convince Wilson to join him in West Yorkshire.

"[I'm] trying to sell it to everyone,” Ampadu said. "It’s a pretty easy sell. Everyone knows how special a place Leeds is.

"But whenever we get asked how our time is at Leeds, when we’re with Wales, we speak about it so glowingly.”

Leeds fans will certainly hope Wilson takes note of that and joins not only Ampadu, but a handful of other Wales squad members at Leeds.

With Wilson being available for free, it is not that far-fetched to say whoever signs him is pulling off one of the coups of the summer.

What has Wilson said about his future?

Wilson has always been a very talented player, having come through Liverpool's academy set-up.

The 29-year-old, now in his peak years, was hailed as "magic" by Neil Harris during a loan spell at Cardiff in 2020.

Wilson is vastly experienced in the Premier League and it does not look likely he will head abroad.

He has not said a great amount on his future, other than he would wait to make a decision until after the season.

"I feel like because the season from a personal level has been good, I kind of said I just want to concentrate on that," Wilson said in April.

"And I feel like any other distractions, I don’t want my form to dip. I don’t want the focus to be on my contract. I want it to be on the team and getting results."

Wilson's form did dip, not helped by being in and out of the team amid the uncertainty over his future.

But he still had a very strong season and would undoubtedly instantly improve Leeds' starting line-up if he joins.

Let's hope Ampadu has done enough to help do exactly that.
