Daniel Farke has already outlined why Leeds should sign Nico Elvedi as transfer latest shared
Daniel Farke is well aware of what Nico Elvedi would bring to Leeds United.
Farke was manager of Borussia Monchengladbach in the 2022–2023 season, before he took over at Elland Road.
He worked with the Swiss defender in his time with the Foals, and the Whites have constantly been linked with a move for the defender.
Leeds could reignite their interest and are believed to be willing to fork out £7.3million for his services.
Farke has so far resisted the temptation to raid his former side for the 70-cap international.
The latest information from Germany suggests that there is still a long way to go in any pursuit of the 29-year-old.
Where do Leeds stand in Nico Elvedi chase?
Monchengladbach have not received an offer for the defender, according to reports in Germany.
Rheinische Post claim that the Borussia-Park outfit hold all of the cards in a potential exit scenario, and would like him to sign a new deal.
That is because a clause in his contract has now expired, leaving them free to negotiate a higher fee with interested parties, such as the Thorp Arch side.
The report does not rule out a departure, stating that they are hoping to receive a double-digit fee in the millions to consider it.
As for Elvedi's stance on the matter, he is understood to have not made up his mind about his future.
Why Daniel Farke sees Elvedi as the ideal defensive addition
Farke loves Elvedi from their time together with the North Rhine-Westphalia club.
Speaking after a 4-0 defeat to Mainz in February 2023, the German boss revealed that he rates the 29-year-old very highly.
He said: “For me, he’s one of the best center-backs in Europe when he’s at his best. He’s proven that over the years.”
That description may feel a bit over the top, but the LS11 manager clearly felt that way at the time.
It is unlikely that his view on the player has changed in three years, and he may well try to convince him to move to Yorkshire this summer.
He could believe that Elvedi is the ideal defensive addition to take his side to the next level.
That would not bode well for the likes of Pascal Struijk, Joe Rodon and Jaka Bijol, one of who would find themselves relegates to the bench if he was signed.
