Sky Sports journalist: Leeds want to make another signing after Raphinha; medical underway
Sky Sports reporter Tim Thornton has said that Brazilian winger Raphinha is currently undergoing his medical at Leeds United.
He added that even if Leeds get Raphinha over the line, they still want to bring a central midfielder in.
That means there could be more drama for Leeds today after the deal for Bayern Munich’s Michael Cuisance collapsed last week.
Thornton was talking on Deadline Day Breakfast on Sky Sports (Monday, 9am) where he also said that Leeds were expecting a few exits.
He was quoted on their live transfer blog (9.48am) as saying, “The Raphinha deal is not yet done but it’s getting closer.
“Their strong interest advanced yesterday and the player is now undergoing a medical. It will be their fifth major signing of the window and they are also looking to get a central midfielder in.”
Phil Hay also claimed Leeds wanted a midfielder, writing in the Athletic, “Having missed out on Michael Cuisance last week, they would like a midfielder too but time is running short in the international market.”
Don’t go to bed just yet
It’s set to be an exciting deadline day for Leeds, with Raphinha looking like he’s going to join the club.
After that, Leeds fans will be watching desperately for a sign of a midfielder coming in.
Leeds had looked like they’d found their man, with Cuisance arriving at the club for a medical last week.
However, he reportedly failed his medical, although Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick disagreed with this.
Cuisance is set to take another medical today with Marseille and it will be interesting to see if he passes that.
The deal for another midfield target Rodrigo De Paul is off, according to Fabrizio Romano.
That will leave Leeds looking for fresh targets or focusing on the EFL, where they can still sign players until October 16.
One possibility is Valencia central midfielder Geoffrey Kondogbia, with Valencia reluctantly looking to move the player on today in a bid to raise funds.
Leeds are reported to be interested.
