'I can say' – Bayern Munich manager refutes Leeds reason for Cuisance deal collapsing

Bayern Munich manager Hansi Flick has spoken for the first time since Michael Cuisance’s move to Leeds United collapsed in dramatic fashion.

And his words have added more mystery to the failed deal.

There were conflicting reports from various sources after Cuisance’s move fell through.

The line from Leeds delivered to Leeds-based journalist like Phil Hay was that Cuisance had failed his medical.

However, other journalists claimed the two clubs had failed to agree over certain elements of the deal.

Flick has refuted the failed medical saying, “The situation is certainly not that easy for him now. It was certainly a setback, but I can say that our medical staff have a completely different opinion.

“That’s why we’ve told him we support him in every way. For him the position is difficult.”

Flick went on to say in his pre-match press conference that Cuisance hadn’t trained on Saturday because he hadn’t had a Coronavirus test after returning from Leeds.

Something fishy

Leeds fans were distraught when the deal for Cuisance collapsed when it looked like he was all but signed.

Hay reported that Leeds were ready to announce him on Thursday when an issue with one of his feet made them tank on the decision.

Eventually, they were advised by head of medicine Rob Price not to sign him.

A failed medical is unusual these days but it happens. However, Bayern Munich have now refuted this publicly. And it’s odd for a club to make a public statement like this.

L’Equipe said that the medical showed that Cuisance would take weeks to get up to speed and that’s why Bielsa rejected a deal.

However, it does seem that there’s something we’re not being told about the deal.

Flick wouldn’t say any more than refuting the failed medical explanation and it will be interesting to see if Cuisance gets back to training after he has a Coronavirus test.

We don’t expect Leeds to make any official statement and they’ve moved onto other targets.

Like Flick, we sympathise with Cuisance after he made all the headlines for the wrong reason.
