Phil Hay: Leeds United unlikely to make move to resign Ronaldo Vieira

Phil Hay has shut down reports linking Leeds United with a move to re-sign Ronaldo Vieira from Sampdoria in January.

Club Doria 46 reported this week that the Whites could look to bring back one of the first players that Marcelo Bielsa sold at Elland Road.

Hay insisted that the England youth international has hardly played since a move to Sheffield United broke down in the summer, making a move unlikely.

Writing in his Transfer Mailbag for The Athletic, Hay reacted to the story that broke earlier in the week.

“Vieira has been totally inactive at first-team level since that loan to Sheffield United fell through,” he wrote.

“I can’t see it.”

Easy link to make.

Leeds are crying out for another midfielder, and with Vieira hardly playing in the past year, it is easy to suggest that he needs a move.

Sheffield United almost sealing his signature for their Championship highlights his level though at this stage, and the Whites need better reinforcements for the Premier League.

We all love Vieira, he had some brilliant years at Elland Road, but having gone through numerous major injuries in recent years, he isn’t the answer to our own selection crisis.

Victor Orta will have a list of names ready to go after next month, for that we’re sure, and it will be smart to get any business done as soon as possible.

Bielsa needs players who are ready to be unleashed immediately, and it doesn’t look as though Vieira is one of those.
