Leeds United ready to make January signing, chances remain slim

Leeds United are ready to make a major January signing this season if the opportunity arises to them in the window.

That’s according to Leeds Live, who also share that although that is the case, it remains slim that a deal will be concluded.

Victor Orta and Marcelo Bielsa never like acting in January, as it takes too long to get up to speed with his methods.

Writing in their latest piece, Joe Donnohue shared the chances of the Whites actually taking action in the upcoming window.

“This does however contravene the club’s public stance on the January market, as one they prefer not to operate in unless absolutely necessary,” they wrote.

“Leeds remain alert to transfer opportunities, where prices fall to a palatable sum or a player becomes unexpectedly available, such as the deals which brought Raphinha and Daniel James.

“Although, the likelihood of sealing any incoming business during the January 2022 window appears slim.”

There are two clear areas of weakness in this current side.

Leeds are lacking in midfield and in the final third, with injuries once again going straight through the spine of the side.

Adam Forshaw’s return was a timely boost, but given Stuart Dallas’ drop back into defence and Mateusz Klich not hitting top gear, another fresh face would be welcome.

Up front is the big one, though. Patrick Bamford has been out far longer than expected and with Rodrigo shining in the playmaker role, there has been no out-and-out replacement.

Dan James shined at times against Leicester, but a real centre-forward to rival Bamford would be perfect.

The real problem is that no smart side are going to make one of their better players available midway through the season, so Leeds could be working off scraps.

Do we see anything happening in January? Most likely not.
