Mateo Joseph Fernandez dumped from Espanyol B squad v CD Ibiza, Leeds signing close

Leeds United appear to be closing in on the signing of Espanyol attacking sensation Mateo Joseph Fernandez.

The Whites have been said to have agreed personal terms with the 17-year-old, who is ready to move back to England.

Diego Balbontin shared that news with just a fee needing to be agreed between the two clubs before this deal is done.

Things appear to be moving quickly behind the scenes too.

Espanyol B entertained CD Ibiza in the past couple of days, falling to a 2-1 defeat against their Spanish rivals.

Matters off the pitch interested more though, as Fernandez was a notable absence from the squad, not even on the bench.

Writing on their official Twitter account ahead of the game, Espanyol B shared their team news: “Alignment with this 11, Espanyol B will play today against CD Ibiza.”

Get it done.

Espanyol have surely accepted the fact that they will be losing Joseph sooner rather than later, with no contract extension agreed.

The 17-year-old is also courted by the likes of Manchester City, Liverpool and Barcelona, but Leeds appear to be out in front for his signature.

Joseph has also been dumped from training, and now watching games from the stands, it won’t be long until he lands at Thorp Arch [AS].

Carlos Fanlo has reported in the past week that a move to Leeds was “very close” and this latest squad omission appears to suggest all parties accept that it will happen in the next two months ahead of January.

Get it done.
