Marc Overmars confirms Leeds target Nicolas Tagliafico is up for sale
Ajax director of football Marc Overmars has confirmed that left-back and Leeds United target Nicolas Tagliafico is up for sale this summer.
The 28-year-old has emerged as a genuine transfer target for the Whites in the past few weeks.
Left-back Ezgjan Alioski looks all set to leave the club despite Marcelo Bielsa wanting him to extend his contract at Elland Road.
This has seen Leeds look for prospective left-backs to sign in the summer, and they will now be delighted that Tagliafico is open to leaving the Dutch side.
In an interview with Dutch magazine Voetbal International (h/t The Daily Express), Overmars said, “A departure for Nicolas Tagliafico and David Neres would not be illogical.
“Neres has been with Ajax since the beginning of 2017, is 24 years old, and wants to take a step. The same applies to Tagliafico, who has been playing here for three and a half years now and will turn 29 next summer.
It is no secret that they are open to a transfer. Just as it is well known that outbound transfers are a significant part of our revenue.”
There have been recent reports of credible interest mounting in the player and the fact that the club along with the left-back are open to a transfer makes it an easier deal to pursue.
Oftentimes, one party is apprehensive of the move which only leads to delays in completing the signing.
That said, there’s still a lot of work to be done to get the deal over the line.
The player is keen on moving to England, but the likes of Chelsea and Manchester City are also reportedly interested in the player.
While they both offer more lucrative options, Tagliafico will not be a regular at either club. City have three options to choose from in Nathan Ake, Benjamin Mendy and Oleksandr Zinchenko – who has been the pick of the bunch.
Chelsea, on the other hand, spent big money to sign Ben Chilwell last summer and already have Marcos Alonso who is doing well as his understudy.
Even if Alioski doesn’t leave, Tagliafico walks into our playing eleven. Total Football Analysis did a statistical breakdown of the player and highlighted how he is a ‘world-class’ player.
The 28-year-old would also be a perfect fit for Marcelo Bielsa’s attacking brand of football and the two could build a great rapport because of their Argentine connection.
