Jeff Stelling & Laura Woods back Leeds to beat Tottenham
Sky Sports pundits Jeff Stelling and Laura Woods have both predicted a Leeds United victory over Tottenham Hotspur this Saturday.
After putting in a hapless performance against Brighton last weekend, Marcelo Bielsa’s men will be looking to get back to winning ways when they square off against Spurs.
Ryan Mason’s side were convincing against Sheffield United last time out and will be fancying their chances against the Whites who are looking for a top-half finish.
However, Stelling and Woods do not expect Spurs to get the job done, and have gone for Leeds victories.
Woods predicted a 3-1 win for Leeds while Stelling emphasised why he’s backing the Whites to run out 2-1 winners.
On Sky Sports’ Super Six, he said, “Leeds lost their first game in seven Premier League matches against Brighton and looked pretty flat, so I expect a response against Ryan Mason’s Tottenham, who have won two games in a row following his temporary appointment.
“Gareth Bale could add to his goal tally again at Elland Road, but with players coming back from injury for Leeds, I think they will get over the line.”
Not quite optimistic
While recent form and manager turmoil at Spurs suggests that we should be favourites, there is an air of nervousness going into this game.
We’ve not been as clinical recently and against Brighton, Kalvin Phillips’ absence cost us dearly. Not having his anchoring presence in the middle of the park saw us fail to create any telling opportunities.
Raphinha’s trickery and direct runs were also missed, and along with Phillips, he remains a doubt for this one too.
Both of these players are doubts for the game.
While Spurs may not be well-coached, they’ve got world-class players in their ranks like Harry Kane and Son Heung-min. Even Gareth Bale picked the wrong time to regain his form, and it would be difficult to restrict this attack.
If we are to win this game, we must start Stuart Dallas at left-back and drop Ezgjan Alioski. Ian Poveda needs to be given his first start of the season – he’s proved he can make an impact when he’s come off the bench.
