Carlton Palmer expects Marcelo Bielsa to leave if Tottenham want him

Former Leeds United midfielder Carlton Palmer expects Marcelo Bielsa to leave Elland Road if Tottenham Hotspur show an interest in him.

Tottenham sacked Jose Mourinho a week before their cup final and appointed Ryan Mason as the interim manager.

However, it’s understood that Daniel Levy is not keen on giving him the role on a full-time basis and is exploring possibilities to bring in.

One name that has been floated, although not as extensively as the others, has been Bielsa’s.

The Argentine has undoubtedly overachieved in such a short amount of time at Leeds, and Palmer believes that he wouldn’t hesitate to jump ship if the North London side came calling.

He told Football FanCast, “You want to better yourself. You want to get the top jobs, just like players want to go to top clubs, so it’d be a fantastic opportunity for him.

“If Spurs come knocking, that’s a different ball game. That’s a great career opportunity for him. I’d be very surprised if Tottenham came knocking and he wasn’t prepared to go.”

Never going to happen

The media and ex-players can try all they want, there’s no way Bielsa leaves Elland Road this season, whether Tottenham or Barcelona come calling.

It just shows an ignorance about the way Bielsa works – both now and throughout his career.

Leeds are a club on the rise, have a well-run structure in place, and the Argentine has a good working relationship with everyone at the club. He does long-term projects where he has control and the idea of him working under someone like Daniel Levy is,, quite frankly, laughable.

Everyone’s singing from the same hymn sheet at Elland Road, and there’s no guarantee of that happening at Spurs, a club known to have a fragile dressing room.

Also, Andrea Radrizzani has time and again said that Bielsa is likely to stay on at the club and the man himself has never hinted at leaving.

He’s taken the club from the Championship to the Premier League and his only focus will be to finish the season as high as possible in the top half.
