Leeds United sensation Darko Gyabi shines in front of Javi Gravia, Marc Roca at risk of falling down pecking order

Leeds United midfielder Marc Roca could be at serious risk of falling down the pecking order and perhaps even losing his first-team berth.

That’s because Darko Gyabi’s performances for the under-21s are certainly going to see him knocking on Javi Gracia’s door for a first-team opportunity.

The Spaniard attended the 19-year-old game against Derby County under-21s in which the former Manchester City talent put up a glowing display.

Yorkshire Evening Post’s Joe Donnohue who attended the 3-0 victory for the Whites, was left impressed with Gyabi’s performance.

He wrote on Twitter, “Granted, it’s against a team bottom of the league with only one point, but Darko Gyabi’s performance tonight is the most complete midfield display by any LUFC player, at any level, (I’ve seen) this season. Passing, strength, presence, awareness, use of his body – class.

“Man of the Match, no question. Perkins with two assists & a well-taken goal can feel hard done by, but Gyabi has toyed with Derby at every opportunity. Plays with an attitude, dynamism & real vitality. Suspect Gracia & his staff, who are here tonight, will have noticed the same.”

Roca’s not been consistent this season and for the game against Chelsea, he made way for Brenden Aaronson and that decision didn’t pay off either.

The American had fewer touches and completed fewer passes than Illan Meslier and was deservedly taken off the pitch in the second half.

Going back to Roca may not be the best choice in the world and adding Gyabi will give them solidity against a Brighton side that are expected to dominate possession and give the Leeds midfield a run for their money.

We may not recommend starting him, but we will be really surprised if he does not make the bench and come off in the second half.

Gracia needs to make bold calls like these if he is to be given the job beyond the end of the season as well and he’ll surely be considering making a few changes.

In other Leeds United news, the club may now face a losing battle to keep their star player at Elland Road beyond the summer transfer window.
