Leeds United could sign World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi after Angers president opens door to transfer

Leeds United should look to make a move for Angers midfielder and Morocco World Cup star Azzedine Ounahi in the January transfer window.

Angers president Said Chabane revealed that there have been offers for Ounahi, 22, from English clubs and Leeds are surely aware of his ability.

Recently, Victor Orta claimed that Andrea Radrizzani texted him about the Morocco midfielder and said that he was a fan of what he’s done at the World Cup.

Chabane told RTL France as transcribed by 90Min on 17 December, “We have had many offers for him, from big and medium-sized clubs. They have come from all over, from Italy, Spain, England and France.

“Our wish is to find an agreement in January, but also that he can remain until the end of the season.”

This is a clear indication that a door is open for a transfer and if not in January, Leeds can look to sign him in the summer.

He’s arguably an upgrade on Marc Roca and would be the perfect midfield partner for Tyler Adams.

Mateusz Klich’s days at Elland Road look to be numbered and Jesse Marsch has failed to offer a clear answer to assure fans that he will stay past the January window.

Even when Rene Maric was asked about Klich’s future on 16 December, he did not give anything away and ended up passing the buck.

The Whites assistant told the Yorkshire Evening Post, “I think I’m just the wrong person to ask that particular question to in general. We’re very happy with him and we just have to look towards what’s coming up in the next week.

“I think there’s nothing decided in either direction. But again, I think you have to ask other people about that.”

With his future appearing sealed due to the lack of game time, Leeds could look to roll back the years and sign someone younger.

While a striker is a priority and perhaps even a left-back, if Klich leaves in January and Adam Forshaw is all but certain to leave in the summer, signing a midfielder suddenly will become an important thing to do.

Ounahi has the backing of Radrizzani as well as Orta and if Marsch wants a midfielder, we will not be surprised that the Morocco international’s name pops up

Even Jose Mourinho is an admirer of the midfielder and he said, “Their number 8, the young boy that plays in France in Angers, Ounahi was absolutely incredible. So, they have players, a coach and an incredible spirit.”

He ticks a lot of boxes for Leeds and it would be a threat to see him at Elland Road.

In other Leeds United news, an attacker linked with a move to Elland Road believes that he could leave his Champions League outfit in the January transfer window.
