Micah Richards has claimed that Leeds United Marcelo Bielsa is deserved of his nomination for the FIFA Best Coach of the Year award.
Bielsa has been in the centre of controversy this week, with many claiming that it is a disgrace that he has been nominated.
The Sky Sports pundit disagreed though and claimed that he feels the love of Leeds for Bielsa from living in the area.
Writing in his Daily Mail column, Richards claims that El Loco is worth more than any accolade in West Yorkshire.
“Marcelo Bielsa has caused great debate once again this week after he was nominated for the FIFA Best Manager of the Year award,” he wrote.
“Many will wonder why Bielsa is in the running having ‘only’ won the Championship. For the people of Leeds, though, it doesn’t matter whether he comes first or fifth in that list. What he has given them is worth more than any accolade.
“The very fact he is being discussed in the same breath as the other managers shows, firstly, what reputation he carries and, secondly, that Leeds are back on the map. I live in Harrogate and spend a lot of time in Leeds and I know the depth of feeling towards him in the area.”
It is no surprise that Leeds are in the middle of everyone’s complaints, once again.
Marseille boss Andre Villas-Boas claimed this week that FIFA are sleeping and that this is a scandal that Bielsa has been nominated over the likes of Thomas Tuchel.
Bielsa, on the other hand, was all class when reacting to the breaking news, claiming that his nomination was credit to his coaching team and not just him.
Richards is spot on, Leeds loves Bielsa.
Who wouldn’t? The South American finally guided the Whites back into the Premier League after 16 years away, and that has deservedly been celebrated through this nomination.
