Clinton Morrison shares Leeds United promotion verdict on Sky Sports after Ipswich win v Coventry

Ipswich Town will “do the business” against Huddersfield Town and pip Leeds United to automatic promotion this season, according to Clinton Morrison.

Daniel Farke’s Whites sit three points behind the Tractor Boys ahead of the final game of the season after Kieran McKenna’s side claimed all three points with a 2-1 win over Coventry City on Tuesday (30 April).

Leeds face promotion rivals Southampton on Saturday (4 May) while Ipswich welcome Huddersfield to Portman Road, knowing a point will end the promotion race and Sky Sports pundit Morrison thinks they will be promoted.

Speaking on Sky Sports Football (30 April, 10:04) he said: “100 per cent I’d be backing Ipswich (ahead of Leeds) without a shadow of doubt. They’ve been outstanding to be fair. Even when it went 1-1 you wonder if they’ve got the desire to get another one

“But this team never know when they’re beaten. Credit has to go to McKenna. What do they need? They need a point against Huddersfield at home and I think they’ll do the business at Portman Road.”

Will Leeds United beat Ipswich Town to promotion to the Premier League?

Leeds United have faltered at the worst time of the season. Following the March International break, Farke’s side struggled for form and it feels like their three-match losing run at the start of April may have come back to bite them.

Those defeats to Coventry City, Blackburn and last week’s 4-0 thrashing at the hands of QPR ensured that it was always going to be hard for the Whites to pip the Tractor Boys to automatic promotion.

However, it is now completely out of their hands heading into the final weekend. While Leeds will fancy their chances of beating an injury-hit Southampton, few would expect Huddersfield to cause an upset at Portman Road.

Hopefully, the Tractor Boys will falter on the final day of the season to leave a window open for Farke’s side to jump into the top two at the last minute. If not, the Whites will be forced to settle for a place in the play-offs.
