Leeds United defender Luke Ayling will go "where the best offer is" amid growing transfer interest this summer, according to Alan Nixon.

The Sun journalist reported on Sunday (28 April) that the veteran defender who is out of contract at Elland Road come the end of the season, will make a decision on his future based on what offers he receives.

Nixon had reported previously that Birmingham City have joined Sheffield United in the race for the 32-year-old's signature [The Sun, 28 April] this summer but when asked if Middlesbrough may make his loan switch permanent, he didn't rule it out.

Writing on X on Sunday (28 April) he said: "Goes where the best offer is."

Will Luke Ayling complete permanent Leeds United exit and make Middlesbrough transfer?

It has been clear for some time now that Ayling's time at Leeds United is coming to an end with it being fairly well publicised when he completed his loan switch to Middlesbrough that he had played his final game at Elland Road.

But it will be interesting to see where the full-back ends up next as he has shown during his time at the Riverside he still has the ability to play regularly in the Championship, even if not quite at the top of the division.

Had he remained at Elland Road in January, the defender would have been little more than a rotation option in the squad as the likes of Archie Gray, Sam Byram and Connor Roberts have shared defensive duties this term.

While it is a shame to see yet another player of Marcelo Biesla's time at Leeds depart Elland Road, with Liam Cooper likely also departing, it is only natural that this will happen as Daniel Farke puts his stamp on this squad.
