Don Goodman loves what 'brilliant' Illan Meslier did during first half of Leeds United vs Chelsea

Don Goodman heaped praise on Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier for a save he made during the first-half against Chelsea on Sunday.

The Whites hosted their fierce rivals at Elland Road in a very open game in the Premier League, with both teams creating chances in the opening 45 minutes.

But after diving low to keep out an effort from Mason Mount after 20 minutes, the Sky Sports commentator hailed the “brilliant” Frenchman for his stop.

“I spoke about Chelsea on the counter attack moments ago,” he said. “This is what they can do to you in a flash.

“That’s a brilliant piece of goalkeeping from Meslier. At full stretch. A clever effort from Mason Mount.”

There’s no doubting just how important Meslier is to this Leeds side and despite being just 22-years-old, he is already among the better goalkeepers in the Premier League.

Despite conceding 79 goals last season, the 6ft 5′ France under 21 international is rarely at fault for anything that ends up in his net and quite often is the reason that Leeds have got the points they have, with top saves being brought out of nowhere.

His distribution is excellent and helps the team to build from the back and the rest of the team trusts him to do the right thing on a regular basis.

It’s no shock that the likes of Manchester United and Tottenham have shown plenty of interest in him and it’s also no surprise that the Whites have absolutely no intention of letting him go anywhere.

A top talent and an outstanding goalkeeper, Meslier deserves all the praise and plaudits he’s getting right now. Fingers crossed he can help the club continue their improvements as the rest of the season progresses at Elland Road.
