Leeds United close to £4m deal for Wilfried Gnonto, players wants Premier League move
Leeds United are confident of agreeing a £4m deal with FC Zurich for Wilfried Gnonto and are confident he wants to move to the Premier League, say 90min.
The Whites have been in the market for a new attacking addition all summer and Italy international Gnonto is now said to be a major target for the club, with a bid already made.
And while Jesse Marsch has shared that he wouldn’t be a signing for the first-team immediately if he were to join, a report on August 19 claims that sources believe a deal is close to being done.
“90min understands that Leeds have entered the race to sign him and hope to agree a deal worth around £4m including bonuses and add-ons,” they said.
“A deal has not yet been agreed, but sources have indicated that Leeds believe a deal is close – and there’s confidence that Gnonto is keen to move to the Premier League.”
Leeds have become really, really good in recent years at identifying young players across Europe and bringing them in cheap before helping them to develop and selling them on for a high fee.
Raphinha is the most recent and obvious example of this, but the arrivals of the likes of Crysencio Summerville show what the model is at the club.
Gnonto has already got a senior international goal against Germany for Italy and scored nine goals for Zurich last season in the first-team, showing just how much he has developed in a short space of time.
Bringing him to Elland Road will give him an excellent platform to shine and develop with not too much expectation, and there is a clear path into the first-team for him to see and progress through.
It would be an exciting signing for the fans but it would be one for the future rather than right now, so it won’t be the end of business if the club have their way.
