Leeds United in advanced talks for Watford winger Ismaila Sarr

Leeds United are in advanced talks with Watford over the signing of Ismaila Sarr, according to Foot Mercato journalist Santi Aouna.

The Whites want a new forward to help add competition to the forward line, with Patrick Bamford’s injury problems a concern at Elland Road.

And now French outlet Foot Mercato say Crystal Palace are trying to rush through a deal for the Senegal international who is already in advanced talks with Leeds, and wants to return the Premier League.

Leeds would need to make a sale before they sign Sarr according to the report, and that could leave Palace enough space to sneak in and get a deal done for the 24-year-old.

Speed demon

There’s no doubting that Sarr would be able to add great quality to the Leeds squad in wide positions, but he’s also capable of playing through the middle which is what Leeds need most.

He recently scored a worldie of a goal from 50+ yards for Watford against West Brom, chipping the goalkeeper from his own half while playing as a number nine.

It’s that type of ingenuity and skill that is missing from the Elland Road frontline, especially since the sale of Raphinha to Barcelona earlier in the transfer window.

Sarr’s speed and size would be a great fit to Jesse Marsch’s attacking style, and a deal is there to be done following Watford’s relegation to the Championship last season.

If Leeds are able to strike an agreement then they will feel as though they’re the front runners to getting a deal done, but they’ll need to be quick with plenty of teams interested in bringing Sarr to their club before the transfer deadline in two weeks time.

Palace are keen, and with five goals and one assist in 16 appearances last season he has proven himself capable of performing in the Premier League.

Hopefully he can do it this season in a white shirt.

In other Leeds news, the club are keeping an eye on a Premier League striker who has already agreed a move elsewhere
