Another Arsenal player, Sead Kolasinac, has tested positive for Covid-19 on international duty with Bosnia & Herzegovina ahead of the game against Leeds United.
That comes on the back of Mohamed Elneny being ruled out of the game at Elland Road after a positive test of his own.
Meanwhile, winger Willian will have to return a negative test before he can train with the club after visiting Dubai in an apparent breach of Covid regulations.
Kolasinac has played the full 90 minutes in one Premier League game this season but has been more used in the Europa League campaign.
Elneny has started both of the last Arsenal games, the 1-0 win against Man United and the 3-0 defeat to Aston Villa.
Sooner the international break over, the better
While we don’t mind the idea of Arsenal having to field a weakened team against Leeds at Elland Road, we can sympathise with their plight at the moment.
The international break is getting roundly condemned with injuries and positive tests are racking up. And the games carry on tonight just a few days before the Premier League gets back underway. It’s madness.
Elneny will be a big miss for Arsenal and Kolasinac is set to miss the Elland Road clash now as well.
Willian is a different case and Arsenal fans are rightly annoyed that he might have deliberately broken the rules after not being selected for Brazil for their recent internationals.
So far (touch wood), Leeds are set to come out of the international break without too much damage being done.
Gjanni Alioski was sent home early with a swollen hamstring but we’re hoping that’s more precautionary and that he will be okay for Sunday.
Rodrigo has now recovered from his Covid-19 positive test and should return against Arsenal.
Kalvin Phillips could also make his return after taking part in light training this week.
