Leeds United star Ezgjan Alioski has had to withdraw from the North Macedonia squad through injury.

According to MacedoniaFootball.com, he couldn't take part in a training session and has been replaced in the squad for the game against Armenia.

Alioski helped North Macedonia into the finals of the Euros next summer when they beat Georgia 1-0 in the play-off final last Thursday.

He was suspended for the 2-1 Nations League win over Estonia on Sunday.

In a tweet from the MacedonianFooty Twitter account, it was said that Alioski couldn't train as he had swelling on his hamstring.

Big blow for Leeds

The hope will be that this is more precautionary than anything else but it would be a major blow if he's ruled out of the game against Arsenal.

Alioski has started two of the last three games, with Kalvin Phillips out through injury.

Phillips may be back for the game against Arsenal but that's not a certainty – this game was the earliest that he could make his return.

We had heard that Alioski was going to leave the North Macedonia squad early anyway but with so many players missing, it seems that the plan had changed and that he was set to stay and play against Armenia.

Instead, he's become the latest causality in an international break that's causing a lot of issues.

Liverpool have lost their entire first-choice backline to injuries and the sheer number of fixtures that players are being expected to play seems really unwise.

So far, Leeds haven't been hit too hard but we'll reserve judgement until all of our players are back – there's one round of international fixtures left before the Premier League kicks off again at the weekend.

Leeds play Arsenal at Elland Road on Sunday and need a result after two consecutive 4-1 defeats.
