What Daniel Farke 'truly desires' could harm Harry Wilson at Leeds United

Daniel Farke deployed Harry Wilson as a number 10 in Leeds United's pre-season defeat to Wrexham on Sunday.

The Whites continued their preparation ahead of a crucial Premier League season in Florida, but were unable to come out the victors against Wrexham.

Despite the 3-2 defeat, Farke will be more focused on getting minutes into his players' legs, possibly testing out new tactical ideas before the season starts.

Wilson made his unofficial debut after becoming the Whites' maiden signing of the summer, but was played out of his natural position against Phil Parkinson's side.

However, Farke already appears to be trying things with Wilson that may not work for either of them at Leeds.

Farke was always keen on signing a left-footed attacker that could operate on the right-hand side of the frontline ahead of the summer.

The German head coach got exactly what he wanted when the club brought him Wilson, who has one of the best left feet in the Premier League.

Wilson grabbed his first 45 minutes for the Whites in the second half of their 3-2 defeat to Championship side Wrexham, and was full of energy.

However, Leeds struggled to create chances, as Farke reverted to a back four, something which some fans fear.

There has been talk that the former Norwich City boss will look to go back to his old system, and doing so could upset some fans, especially if he gets it wrong with Wilson.

The right-winger naturally plays out wide, and has been sparsely used in central positions in his career, as Leeds Live suggest that what Farke "truly desires" is a natural 10 that can operate out wide.

So his underlying profile may not be ideal for Farke's preference in the attacking midfield role, which could hold him back in LS11.

It's pretty telling that Wilson was played in the role in his first outing for the Whites, but Farke could yet land a player who is the perfect fit for his specific want.

Brenden Aaronson is the only natural number 10 that Leeds have on their books right now.

However, should Farke remain with his five-at-the-back system, that won't matter too much, as there will be an emphasis on players who can operate as a wide 10 instead. That's something that would suit Wilson.

But if the Leeds boss insists on using a 4-2-3-1, there may be one man who is perfect for the number 10 hole.

MOT Leeds News understands that Julian Brandt's father recently visited Thorp Arch ahead of his son choosing his next club after leaving Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer.

The German is a natural 10, who can operate on the left wing, which fits what Farke truly wants.

So Brandt's arrival could actually benefit Wilson, who would then simply have to be used in his natural position, instead of being forced centrally.

Of course, it is the first game of pre-season so we can't read too much into it, but let's hope it changes as we edge closer to the real business.
