Leeds United nearly let one point slip away against Brighton with a moment that left Paul Merson in disbelief.

The Whites managed to end a 14-year streak of failing to score away to Brighton when Jayden Bogle put the Whites 1-0 up in the first half.

Daniel Farke's side were looking to hold on and pick up another three points this season, but a goal in the final 20 minutes would ultimately share the points.

However, after Luka Vuskovic's equaliser, Brighton looked the more likely side to score.

And they very nearly grabbed a late winner.

With just minutes to go, Pascal Gross left Sky Sports pundit Merson in utter shock at what he witnessed.

Why Leeds may consider themselves lucky vs Brighton

Leeds were fighting for their life to hold onto a point away to Brighton.

Fabian Hurzeler's side were piling the pressure on as they searched for a winning goal.

And midfielder Gross very nearly provided that moment in the 88th minute.

The German from about four yards out had a headed effort blocked, but the ball would fall to his feet.

From that distance, you would expect anyone to at least get it on target and cause questions for the goalkeeper.

However, that was not the case with his effort blazing over the bar.

Speaking on Sky Sports, Merson said about the chance: "It's unbelievable. Three or four yards out and he's put it well over the bar. Do that 100 times and he'll score it 99 times."

On another day, that goal goes in, and Leeds come away from the south coast with zero points.

Luck was certainly on their side as the second-half performance against Brighton was way off the level they showed in the first 45.

Worrying problem emerging for Farke and Leeds

Three games into the season and there is a notable trend popping up for the LS11 outfit.

They are struggling to maintain a high enough level over a 90-minute match.

Against Nottingham Forest on the opening weekend, they were far poorer in the first-half than they were in the second.

Against Brentford, it was the same, with the first-half showcase miles off what they offered in the final 45 minutes.

And against Brighton, it was the same, but in reverse of what happened against the Bees and the Tricky Trees.

Farke needs to understand why Leeds are struggling to impose themselves over a full game, and get back to the drawing board to solve it.
