The exact moment Daniel Farke cost Leeds United three points in Brighton draw

Leeds United missed an almighty opportunity to end their Amex Stadium hoodoo against Brighton on Saturday.

Leading into the game, Brighton were unbeaten in 10 home games against Leeds - winning seven, drawing three, and keeping eight consecutive clean sheets.

The Whites at least ended their wait for a goal when Jayden Bogle tapped in on the goalline after 15 minutes against the Seagulls.

Leeds peppered Brighton from that moment, and were well on top against Fabian Hurzeler's men on the south coast.

But Leeds would only walk away with a 1-1 as Luka Vuskovic levelled for Brighton, who finished in the ascendancy.

And you can pin-point the exact moment it went wrong for Daniel Farke, with one stat in particular backing it up.

What did Daniel Farke get wrong in Leeds draw vs Brighton?

Leeds will be kicking themselves at only coming home to West Yorkshire with just one point in the bag.

As well as Bogle's goal, Leeds hit the crossbar, had one cleared off the line, and saw Ao Tanaka have a goal disallowed (rightly) in fairness.

Managers live and die by their decisions, and unfortunately it was Farke's decision to bring off Noah Okafor and Bogle for Brenden Aaronson and Jaka Bijol in the 62nd minute that started the turnaround.

Up until the point of the substitution, Brighton had an xG of just 0.21, while it was at just 0.06 at half-time for the Seagulls.

By full time, Brighton's xG had climbed to 2.19, just a little under Leeds' 2.29, with both teams underperforming their expected output.

So, why exactly did that change prove so costly?

Okafor was causing all sorts of problems for Leeds against the Seagulls.

The Switzerland ace's pace and direct running had the hosts retreating, and was carrying Leeds up the pitch to play in dangerous areas.

Okafor was successful in three of his four dribbles, had a progressive carrying distance of 43.1 metres, and 77.2m total carrying distance.

Even more baffingly, Farke took Dominic Calvert-Lewin off for Lukas Nmecha in the 73rd minute.

With Okafor and Calvert-Lewin off the pitch, it was very difficult for Leeds to hold the ball higher up the pitch, which meant Brighton were able to exert more pressure in Leeds territory.

Sometimes it can feel an easy out to blame a manager's substitutions when a game isn't won, and Brighton deserve their fair share of credit for coming back into the game.

But, on this occasion, you can't help but feel that Farke may have given Brighton the encouragement they needed to be a little more emboldened in attack.
