Fellow Championship side Sunderland are unlikely to prioritise a move for Leeds United, Celtic and Rangers target Nathaniel Adjei in January, according to the Sunderland Echo.

The news outlet claimed that there are other positions the Black Cats would rather strengthen so a move for the 21-year-old Hammarby defender is not on the cards.

Adjei, a centre-back by trade has been linked with a move to Leeds by Fotboll Direkt on 7 November.

Not needed

Leeds would be prudent to prioritise investment in a right-back and/or left-back rather than a centre-back in the January transfer window.

While a centre-back may seem a logical choice for bolstering defence, the Whites currently have sufficient depth in that position.

Allocating funds towards securing quality options for full-back positions would address vulnerabilities in wide defensive areas, offering more balanced and versatile defensive coverage.

Strengthening the flanks is crucial for Daniel Farke's attacking system, where full-backs play an integral role in providing width and supporting the team's high-tempo style.

A skilled right-back and left-back would enhance offensive capabilities while ensuring defensive stability, aligning with Whites' strategic needs and potentially yielding greater overall improvement than investing in a centre-back at this juncture.

By putting a high emphasis on right-back and left-back reinforcements, Leeds can enhance both defensive solidity and attacking prowess, optimising resources in January for a more strategically aligned and impactful transfer approach and perhaps spend more in the longer term rather than wasting funds on a position they don't need to strengthen.
