Leeds United get away with one as Keith Hackett analyses Brentford footage

Leeds United may have been lucky to get a point against Brentford on Sunday.

The Whites fought back from being pegged behind to earn a 1-1 draw, adding another point to their Premier League tally.

The Bees were arguably the better side int he first 45, deservedly going ahead after Kevin Schade's flick looped over James Trafford.

Daniel Farke made use of his bench, bringing on five players, as Lukas Nmecha made a difference to assist Dominic Calvert-Lewin for the equaliser.

The second half could have gone either way, and will have been a great watch for a neutral, with plenty of risky challenges going in.

However, while Leeds may have felt they deserved a penalty, they were lucky to have not given one away moments after in the view of Keith Hackett.

Jayden Bogle made 'deliberate' trip on Kevin Schade

Leeds had a penalty shout of their own just after the hour mark, but Brentford had their own case for a spot-kick after a lighting-fast counter attack.

Schade went down under a challenge from Jayden Bogle in the 65th minute, but referee Tony Harrington waved away penalty shouts by the Bees.

Replays showed that the winger was caught late by Bogle, but VAR agreed with the referee's initial decision.

Former PGMOL chief Hackett had his own opinion on the incident, while exclusively speaking to MOT Leeds News.

Hackett said: "This is a foul. It's a deliberate trip on an opponent and I am surprised that a penalty kick was not awarded by the referee.

"I do not think you need to do a forensic check on this to see it's a foul."

Had Brentford been awarded a penalty, Leeds may have conceded a second and lost the game.

Perhaps Harrington and VAR were cautious after not looking into Leeds' penalty claim just moments prior.

Leeds' main takeaway from Brentford draw

Leeds were trailing at the break, and it prompted Farke to make a big change.

The German head coach made two substitutions, but he opted to deploy a 4-2-3-1 formation in the second 45.

Leeds won the second half 1-0 in the formation that almost led to Farke's dismissal last campaign.

There has been suggestions that the former Norwich City boss wants to revert back to a 4-2-3-1 at some point, and this could be the first indication of that rumour being true.
