Leeds ace Nico Elvedi wows BBC pundit with 'lovely' moment in Switzerland win vs Scotland

Leeds United's Nico Elvedi has been impressing while on international duty for Switzerland.

The Whites brought the centre-back in for extra quality and depth this summer, signing him from Borussia Monchengladbach for £8.5million.

He has already established himself as a competent starter for Daniel Farke, with Joe Rodon currently out injured.

Elvedi and Tarik Muharemovic are proving to be two of Leeds' best pieces of business from the summer, as the pair continue to impress on the national stage.

Muharemovic scored for Bosnia and Herzegovina on Monday, helping his country beat Romania 4-2 in the Nations League.

Elvedi has now also gotten himself a goal away from Leeds, scoring in Switzerland's 3-0 win over Scotland on Tuesday.

Murat Yakin consistently relies on Elvedi for Switzerland, who played in all six of his nation's World Cup matches earlier in the summer.

The same cannot be said for Noah Okafor, who has cut ties with the Swiss national team while Yakin is in charge.

Elvedi scored a header from a corner after a wicked delivery by Nottingham Forest's Dan Ndoye to put Switzerland 2-0 up against Scotland in the Nations League.

While speaking on BBC Two, James McFadden put his love for Scotland aside to praise the Leeds defender and Switzerland for their second goal of the contest.

The former Scotland forward said: "It's such a good cross from Ndoye. The timing of the run and the finish from Elvedi too; it's a lovely move."

Elvedi has yet to score for Leeds, but his record for Monchengladbach proves the 29-year-old may not have to wait too long to net in LS11.

Elvedi has helped Switzerland to back-to-back 3-0 wins in the Nations League after a victory over North Macedonia on Saturday.

His nation still has Slovenia and a return fixture against North Macedonia to play before their camp is over, and only then will the defender return to Thorp Arch.

Elvedi is trying to prove why he should keep his place in the Leeds squad, with Rodon hoping to be back to full fitness soon.

Scoring goals will only help his case, but the fact he netted nine seasons in a row for Monchengladbach suggests one is due at Elland Road soon.

Elvedi's best scoring season was in the 2020-21 campaign, where he netted five times in 40 games.

Hopefully, he brings his goal-scoring touch back to Leeds.
