James Trafford sends message after eventful night for England, Leeds teammates quick to react

James Trafford is taking the positives from his rare chance to shine away from Leeds United.

Thomas Tuchel surprisingly named Trafford in England's starting line-up for Saturday evening's UEFA Nations League clash with Spain.

It is the first time Trafford has featured in a competitive game under Tuchel.

Trafford had made just a couple of previous senior appearances for England, having largely been considered third choice until this summer.

However, Trafford's move to Leeds and his strong start to life at Elland Road is already paying off.

While the 23-year-old may have conceded three times in a 3-2 defeat for England, it is still considered a positive step for the Leeds keeper.

What has James Trafford posted after rare England chance?

England had horrendous defending to thank against Spain after conceding three times, rather than Trafford being at fault.

Tuchel has already confirmed Trafford will start England's next game, which is against Czechia on Tuesday night.

Jordan Pickford will then go in goal for the games against Croatia and home to Czechia.

Trafford is certainly not perturbed by conceding three times at Wembley.

He took to Instagram on Sunday afternoon to post: "Great to be back at Wembley. Plenty of positives to take into Tuesday."

Leeds and England teammate Dominic Calvert-Lewin was quick to like the post, as were Ethan Ampadu, Willy Gnonto and Noah Okafor, with the latter also commenting with three heart-eye emojis.

Trafford will now be desperate to keep a clean sheet in Prague to show he deserves to be first choice going forward.

Tuchel going with Trafford for this game against the recently crowned world champions was a surprise, yet at the same time it made total sense.

The thinking was sound. Pickford has been very reliable for England over a number of years now.

But Tuchel needs to think about the future, with Trafford very much the best of the rest.

Tuchel said pre-match that he is "convinced" Trafford will benefit from being told he's playing a couple of matches.

While it was far from ideal the Leeds keeper picked the ball out of his net three times, he now has another chance to enhance his reputation in midweek.
