How Jayden Lienou now has open pathway to force his way into Daniel Farke's Leeds plans

Jayden Lienou will have plenty of hope of making his senior debut for Leeds United following the latest with Gabriel Gudmundsson.

The Whites have ended their pre-season tour of the USA but it has not come without it's casualties.

As the LS11 outfit took on Liverpool in their final game in America, they saw left-back Gudmundsson head off with an injury.

Gudmundsson's injury has since been reported to be a hamstring one, and the Elland Road side will be awaiting to hear the full extent of that issue.

It is far from ideal for Daniel Farke and the last thing he would have wanted to occur.

But one man's disappointment could now pave the way for another's opportunity.

How Jayden Lienou can use three-game audition for Leeds United to his benefit

Lienou has yet to make a senior appearance for Leeds, although he has featured in two Premier League matchday squads towards the end of last season.

Even that alone does show how highly rated the Welsh youth star is at Thorp Arch.

But for Lienou, he may be looking to the upcoming weeks as a real chance to impress ahead of the season opener.

There are still three pre-season friendlies left for the Peacocks before that inaugural game against Nottingham Forest.

And Lienou has so far featured in all of the first three matches versus Wrexham, Sunderland and Liverpool.

Among Leeds' youth players, you would now suspect Lienou to be the most likely to get minutes in that fixture amid the scare over Gudmundsson's fitness.

Leeds do want another left-back this summer window to compete with Gudmundsson. But there has been little to no movement on that so far.

And that leaves Lienou as the most likely option should he continue to impress.

What other options does Daniel Farke have?

If Farke believes that Lienou is not yet ready for Premier League football, then he is likely to turn to the likes of James Justin who is capable of playing on the left.

In the game against Liverpool, that was the change that the German made, with Lienou not featuring until the 83rd minute.

But, the chance to force his way into the first-teams plans does still remain as Farke is likely to keep chopping and changing his line-ups over the next three friendlies.
