Daniel Farke will breathe sigh of relief over Noah Okafor decision, even if it makes no sense
Leeds United star Noah Okafor has seen his World Cup dream come to a brutal end.
The forward was, again, an unused substitute as Switzerland suffered heartbreak against Argentina in the quarter-finals, losing 3-1 in Kansas City.
Alexis Mac Allister put La Albiceleste ahead, only for Dan Ndoye to draw Switzerland level.
However, the game spun on a red card for Breel Embolo, who was shown a second yellow card for simulation, in the 72nd minute.
Switerzland held on for extra time, but Julian Alvarez and Lautaro Martinez were on target to set up a last-four date with England.
It has been a frustrating few weeks for Okafor, and Daniel Farke will breathe a sigh of relief even if what has happened makes little sense.
Leeds United ace Noah Okafor snubbed again by Switzerland
It is always good news for a club manager when a player comes back unscathed from international duty.
And that is certainly the positive Farke will be taking when it comes to Okafor, even though he will be naturally disappointed for him on a personal level.
Last night marked the continuation of a trend that saw Okafor continue to be bizarrely overlooked by Murat Yakin.
In total, Okafor has played just 19 minutes in total at the World Cup, which does not really make much sense.
Switzerland have a well-balanced squad, but it seems an odd decision not to utilise a player like Okafor more.
Especially in a game like the one against Argentina where, sure you're a man down, but you need a goal and you need some attacking impetus.
Okafor can still improve for Leeds
Okafor will now take a break, but his lack of minutes might end up being a positive from a Leeds perspective at least.
The 26-year-old might come back fresh and rejuvunated, ready to prove a point in the Premier League next season.
His debut campaign was solid enough, but there is certainly still room for improvement at Elland Road.
Okafor scored eight goals and provided one assist from 28 Premier League appearances last term, modest but decent numbers.
Indeed, he did outperform his expected goals of 5.26, and he created four big chances and made 0.7 key passes per game.
With his World Cup dream over, the attention turns back to Leeds, and Okafor will no doubt be chomping at the bit to show his worth after a frustrating few weeks.
