Leeds United and Arsenal witnessed some strange calls from Paul Tierney on Saturday.

The Premier League returned as the Gunners played host to Daniel Farke's side.

Things looked set to go in the Whites' favour for the first time ever at the Emirates as James Justin netted the opener.

That actually just spurred the home side on as they went on to score two within 15 minutes of the defender's strike.

The first came from Riccardo Calafiori before Bruno Guimaraes went on to net the eventual winner.

It was that which is where we start as we assess three interesting refereeing decisions in North London.

Bruno Guimaraes should have been booked vs Leeds United

It says a lot about Farke's men in the opening 60 minutes that Mikel Arteta was forced to turn to his bench.

The Spaniard's calls ultimately paid dividends as the Brazilian came on to net the goal to make it 2-1.

There was no issue from a Leeds perspective on the strike itself, rather the celebration.

Guimaraes jumped over the advertising hoardings and embraced supporters in the stands

Law 12 of the IFAB laws of the game dictate that a player must be cautioned if they "climb onto a perimeter fence and/or approach the spectators".

There is no hiding that the midfielder did exactly that, but received no card.

Leeds United player ratings vs Arsenal: Calvert-Lewin immense, 4/10 the weak point

Noah Okafor allowed to continue then called back

That was more of a cut and dry decision, but this example was certainly bizarre.

Noah Okafor was racing through on goal with 26 minutes gone before he rounded David Raya and converted from range.

There was a general feeling that he was offside, and indeed he was.

The strange part is that he was allowed to get on the ball and dribble forward without Tierney blowing his whistle.

That was until he went around Raya and took aim, it was then that the whistle was sounded.

Why do that?

It could have left the referee in a really bad position if Okafor had actually been offside.

He should have allowed the ball to hit the net before then calling for offside.

Paul Tierney overrules linesman in Arsenal vs Leeds United

The final decision that we found odd came after just eight minutes.

It came as Okafor took aim and saw a shot deflect wide as Bukayo Saka flew in to make a block.

Bizarrely, the linesman on the far side saw that and lifted his flag to make an offside call.

That would have come against Dominic Calvert-Lewin and certainly would have been an odd decision.

It was actually overruled by Tierney as he instead awarded a corner for the deflection off Saka.

That was the right call in the end, but is certainly something that you don't see everyday.
