What Leeds United could win from Leicester City case as timescale mooted by legal expert
MOT Leeds News has learned from a legal expert that Leeds United could benefit financially from action against Leicester City.
The Whites are now moving into their second season back in the Premier League after promotion.
Daniel Farke eventually carried his side to the top flight after winning the Championship.
There were some shaky moments in that campaign as frustration built at Elland Road after missing out the year before.
The Yorkshire outfit lost in the playoff final at Wembley as Southampton secured a 1-0 win, despite having the likes of Crysencio Summerville, Georginio Rutter and Archie Gray in their ranks.
It is for that reason that Leeds could look to spark a legal battle against Leicester City, but have plenty of time to make a decision.
Why could Leeds United take action on Leicester City?
When Farke came in, he was given the sole task of getting the LS11 outfit out of the second tier.
He didn't manage that in his first campaign as his side could only manage a third place finish behind Ipswich Town and Leicester.
It is the Foxes that Leeds can take issue with as they were later deemed to have breached Profit and Sustainability Rules.
They were charged and faced a points deduction last season, marking a punishment two years after the offence.
Leeds have now considered their options and could spark a legal battle, that could end with a payout.
How long do Leeds have to open case against Leicester?
Should the Yorkshire side look to go up against the Foxes, they could use the Everton and Burnley case in their favour.
They could earn a similar settlement as there is unlikely to be any other result other than financial gain.
That is the opinion of Partner and Head of Employment Law at Ison Harrison, Yunus Lunat.
He has years of experience in football governance and believes compensation could be in the pipeline should Leeds go up against the 2016 Premier League winners.
Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, Lunat said: "The problem is, I think the best their going to do is compensation. It is quite a difficult legal argument, but it could place the competition in chaos, so I think there will be an order for compensation.
"The limit is six years, so legally they can bring the case within that. They will put in for everything they could of got in the Premier League and it will be a portion of that.
"Burnley brought a similar case against Everton and Leeds might looking at more than that."
That leaves Leeds with at least three more years to make a call on action against Leicester.
It looks likely to land them a sizable settlement fee as Burnley's victory looks set to benefit them.
