Sky Sports pundit predicts Helder Costa exit on the cards after Leeds United update by Kaveh Solhekol

We’re delighted to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive columnist as each week he’ll be giving his views on the biggest talking points at Leeds United...

Paul Robinson suspects that Helder Costa and Ian Poveda will be looking to leave Leeds United before the summer transfer window closes.

Neither player have featured that much in pre-season preparations this summer and both spent last season out on loan at Valencia and Blackburn respectively.

Speculation has recently arisen about Costa’s future at Elland Road with Sky Sports’ Kaveh Solhekol reporting [3 August, 05:22pm on Sky Sports News] that the 28-year-old ex-Wolves winger is expected to exit Leeds this summer amid interest from Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia.

Robinson, however, believes their futures will be left down to Jesse Marsch, who’ll have a final say on whether either are in his plans for the upcoming 2022/23 season.

“You don’t know with those two,” Robinson told MOT Leeds News.

“You suspect they’re not for sale but if somebody wants them, Leeds will move them on.

“There are players who’ll play a big part in the starting 11 this year and I can imagine with Poveda, where he is in his career, he’d want to play.

“It’s the same for Costa as well but it doesn’t look like they’ll get that at Leeds.

“From their point of view, they’re going to want to move on, they’re going to want to play regularly.

“It’s just down to whether Jesse Marsch sees any kind of future for them. It’s the first time the manager’s seen them both in this pre-season.

“Costa’s not done it in the Premier League and has not been anywhere near the starting 11 for a long time.

“Poveda is a victim of being too good coming off the bench so he’s struggled to start games. But he’s quick and direct and has an impact as a sub.”

Leeds have plenty of depth in the wide areas without Costa and Poveda.

Daniel James, Jack Harrison, Luis Sinisterra, Brenden Aaronson, Stuart Dallas and Crysenscio Summerville can all play in their positions.

In other Leeds United news, the Whites want to sign this “phenomenal” former Premier League player who could be keen on a move to Elland Road.
