Kaveh Solhekol: Helder Costa expected to quit Leeds United amid transfer development
Helder Costa is expected to bid farewell to Leeds United this summer amid speculation linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia, according to Kaveh Solhekol.
Speaking on Sky Sports News on Wednesday (3 August, 05:22pm), Solhekol said that Al-Ittihad are keen on signing the 28-year-old Angola winger.
Costa hasn’t been involved in Jesse Marsch’s pre-season friendly matches and it’s unlikely he’ll be seen in a Leeds shirt again.
“Helder Costa is expected to leave Elland Road this summer. Al-Ittihad in Saudi Arabia said to be interested,” said Solhekol live on Sky Sports News’ Transfer Show on Wednesday.
We’ve got nothing against Costa.
He did his best while he was with us even though he clearly wasn’t up to scratch.
It’s a massive issue that Victor Orta decided to spend so much money on him though with the loan-to-buy agreement with Wolves always bound to shoot the Whites in the foot.
Leeds massively overpaid for the ex-Wolves winger, paying around £15million for the permanent deal following his average loan.
Overall, he’s played 71 times for Leeds, scored eight goals and supplied 11 assists.
It’s not enough – especially when he’s reportedly warning £48,000-a-week on his contract at Elland Road [Super Deportes].
Valencia didn’t want him after a sub-par loan spell in Spain last season so a move to the Middle East does kind of make sense.
Orta and Marcelo Bielsa made a big mistake by signing Costa when they should have used the money to strengthen other parts of the squad and we’re bound to take a massive loss on him.
But we wish Costa the best, he’s been a consummate professional at Elland Road.
In other Leeds United news, the club wants to sign this “phenomenal” former Premier League forward who’s potentially keen on the move.
