Georginio Rutter and Wilfried Gnonto updates after ‘inevitable’ Leeds United news

Leeds United will not be “held to ransom” over Georginio Rutter and Wilfried Gnonto following Crysencio Summerville’s move to West Ham, Paul Robinson has said.

The Hammers have announced the signing of the 22-year-old winger, arriving at the London Stadium on a five-year deal worth between £20million and £25million [Florian Plettenberg].

Robinson – who believed that Summerville’s exit was “inevitable” after Leeds missed out on promotion to the Premier League – now remains hopeful about Rutter and Gnonto’s futures at Elland Road.

Speaking exclusively to MOT Leeds News, he said: “It was pretty inevitable that Summerville was going to leave. It’s not anything that has come out of the blue, having been talked about for many weeks. He was the Championship Player of the Season.

“Leeds’ financial situation has been discussed quite openly by the ownership, with Archie Gray being sold for a big fee. It was inevitable that Summerville was going to leave the club for the right fee and right move.

“With the deal done before the start of the season, it’s a good thing because it gives the squad and manager time to settle, and it also opens up funds to strengthen the team where he sees necessary.

“Also, once you’ve sold him for that fee, you look at the futures of others. With Rutter and Gnonto, the club may not have to be held to ransom.”

Leeds United to keep Georginio Rutter and Wilfried Gnonto?

Of course, Daniel Farke would have loved to have kept Summerville in the squad for another season as Leeds battle for promotion to the Premier League for a second consecutive campaign.

However, being condemned to another year in the Championship has meant transfer links have been flooding in for all of the Whites’ biggest stars.

With the Championship Player of the Season now joining Gray and Glen Kamara out of the exit door, Leeds must do everything to keep their next-best duo at Elland Road, Rutter and Gnonto.

In other Leeds United news, Hugo Bueno has made a Celtic transfer decision as the Whites want the defender.
