Wolves defender Hugo Bueno prefers a move to Celtic amid interest from Leeds United, according to James Marshment.

The journalist reported via his personal X account [4 August] that, while Leeds like the player, the opportunity to play Champions League football is a big attraction for the 21-year-old.

It is understood that multiple clubs are keeping an eye on the left-sided defender, who has made 49 appearances for Wolves since making his debut in 2022.

Leeds United to beat Celtic to the signing of Hugo Bueno?

Bueno would certainly be an interesting signing for the Whites this summer, given his Premier League experience and ability to get up and down the left flank.

The Spaniard is clearly a talented player, having broken through from the Wolves academy, though starts have been hard to come by recently for him.

Bueno only made seven Premier League starts last term, having made 16 starts the season before and could be keen for more game time, which he would most likely get at Elland Road.

While Junior Firpo looks to be Daniel Farke's first choice ahead of the 2024/25 campaign, the full-back positions have been an area of concern during the summer transfer window.

The signing of Jayden Bogle has certainly gone some way to relax that concern, but Farke might choose to reinforce the duo of Firpo and Sam Byram in the position.

Of course, with Celtic seemingly the player's chosen destination right now, the Whites will need to work hard to persuade him that a move to Elland Road is the best decision for his development at this moment in time.

Leeds will be aiming to lift the Championship league title and secure promotion to the Premier League, having brutally missed out via the play-off final against Southampton last term.

Bueno could play an important role in that quest if he is to sign for the Whites instead of Celtic.
