Leeds United can attain the depth required to seal promotion to the Premier League if they sign Millwall star Japhet Tanganga this month.

Daniel Farke has operated title-chasing Leeds with one of the Championship's smallest squads during the first half of the season, relying heavily on Joe Rodon and Pascal Struijk as a central defensive pairing.

Max Wober has returned from injury recently to become an additional option, but beyond the trio remain only inexperienced young defenders and Tanganga could act as the missing puzzle piece.

Leeds have been linked with rivalling Wolves and RB Leipzig for the impressive Millwall man [The Express, 31 December], who moved across London to The Den from Tottenham.

Leeds United can seal promotion with a touch of defensive depth

Leeds do not need to be overzealous in the January market, but a sprinkling of nous on top of what they already have would be just the ticket for promotion.

It is widely considered that Farke boasts the most impressive array of players in the Championship, though apart from an autumn injury-hit spell, he has been relatively fortunate to keep a lot of his talent fit.

Tanganga is a player Millwall would not want to let go easily, but the appeal of a promotion race could be a salivating one for the centre-half, now 25.

In terms of his potential other options according to The Express' recent report, Wolves and Leeds could well be swapping divisions if Vitor Pereira's side fade away from their excellent recent upturn in form, while Leipzig boast regular European football but possibly not regular game time.

It would be a challenge, too, to get into Farke's side off the bat - Rodon and Struijk are two of the Whites' most important squad members, so Tanganga's camp could need some convincing if the club are serious about bringing him to Elland Road.
