Many Leeds fans react to Ian Poveda performance in U23s draw v Sheff Weds

Ian Poveda made his debut for Leeds United on Monday afternoon as he played in the Under-23s’ 2-2 draw against Sheffield Wednesday at Hillsborough.

The 19-year-old attacker, who was signed on a permanent deal from Manchester City last month, was named to start on Carlos Corberan’s bench before the game but was thrown into the action as part of three substitutions at half-time.

Poveda then helped Leeds earn a last-gasp draw against the Owls courtesy of an own goal but it was not the best of performances by Corberan’s youngsters, despite them avoiding defeat away from home.

Jean-Kevin Augustin also played for the Under-23s on Monday, starting the match at Hillsborough before a planned substitution at half time, when Poveda was introduced.

Poveda seems to be a lot closer to Marcelo Bielsa’s first-team plans than his fellow January recruit as the ex-Man City winger has made the bench in Leeds’ last two Championship fixtures.

He is still yet to be seen on the pitch for Leeds in a first-team game but you would imagine that he took one step closer to that by playing for the Under-23s this week.

Most Leeds fans on Twitter were impressed by Poveda’s 45-minute-long performance against Sheffield Wednesday and if Bielsa shares that opinion, it’s likely that he will soon feature in the Championship.
