Marcelo Bielsa issues one-word response when asked about West Brom going top of Championship
Marcelo Bielsa is not frustrated by West Brom overtaking Leeds United at the top of the Championship table on Saturday.
Leeds lost 1-0 at home against Wigan while the Baggies eased to a 2-0 victory over relegation-threatened Luton at The Hawthorns.
An unfortunate own goal by Pablo Hernandez proved to be decisive as the Whites went down to Paul Cook’s side at Elland Road in what was a poor overall performance by Bielsa’s men.
Leeds had a number of opportunities to get themselves on the scoresheet but, yet again, their lack of finesse saw another side win a clean sheet against them.
After the match, Bielsa was asked about West Brom taking first-place of Leeds in the race for promotion to the Premier League, to which the Argentine offered an initial one-word answer.
“No,” he said when asked if he was frustrated about West Brom going top, as quoted by LeedsLive.
When asked to expand on his answer, Bielsa added: “There is nothing that makes me more frustrated than not winning a match like this one. It’s not a consequence of the defeat. It’s the match itself. Let’s imagine West Brom lose today, we stay stop, we would be frustrated the same.”
Bielsa is right about that. What happens with West Brom is kind of irrelevant because Leeds just need to focus on what they are doing.
If Leeds win every match between now and the end of the season, they’ll go up.
Promotion is in their own hands.
It does not matter who comes top or second, as long as the Whites finish in the top two, it will be a historic season at Elland Road and Bielsa will no doubt cement his place in the Yorkshire club’s illustrious history.
