‘Wow’, ‘I’m shocked’, ‘What a week’ – Many Leeds fans blown away by Phil Hay transfer news
Leeds United fans have been left blown away by Phil Hay’s update on the club’s pursuit of Freiburg and Germany centre-back Robin Koch.
The Athletic journalist reported on Friday morning that Leeds are on the verge of agreeing a £13million deal with Freiburg and the Yorkshire giants are hopeful of jetting the 24-year-old defender into England this weekend for a medical.
Leeds are understood to have turned their attention to Koch after admitting defeat in their bid to re-sign Ben White from Brighton.
Leeds have already agreed a deal with Valencia to sign Rodrigo this week and now look set to take their summer spend well over £40million if they do eventually close this agreement with Freiburg.
The transfer updates at Elland Road are coming thick and fast and supporters are clearly over the moon with Hay’s update on the bid to sign Koch.
One fan is “shocked” that Leeds are close to signing a full Germany international for as little as £13million while another has hailed the “Bielsa effect” for getting in such a highly-rated player.
Here is a selection of their tweets:

One of the reasons why Leeds are close to being able to sign Koch for £13million is because of the coronavirus pandemic, which has caused valuations to be lowered due to the impact its had on the economy.
In April, the Daily Star reported RB Leipzig had a £17.5million bid rejected by Freiburg for Koch in January but the pandemic has caused the Bundesliga club to lower their demands.
Koch’s also in the final year of his contract in south-west Germany, which is another reason why the Whites have been able to strike this bargain deal.
In other Leeds United news, the Whites have tabled a huge bid for another centre-back.
