Wilfried Gnonto exit update shared at Leeds United as sources speak out

Leeds United sources have said that Wilfried Gnonto has not submitted a transfer request ahead of the 30 August deadline, according to Beren Cross.

The Leeds Live journalist reported via X on Monday (19 August) that the Whites expect the Italy international to remain at Elland Road beyond the end of August despite mounting speculation.

Gnonto is understood to have been a model professional since the Whites playoff final defeat at the end of last season, not once looking to try and push a move away from Leeds.

Social media rumours had suggested the attacker was looking to quit Leeds this summer and follow the likes of Crysencio Summerville and Archie Gray out of the Elland Road exit door.

Will Wilfried Gnonto exit Leeds United amid Elland Road transfer rumours?

While losing Gray, Summerville and Georginio Rutter has already put a massive dent in Leeds United’s promotion hopes this summer, this latest Gnonto update would have given the supporters a slight boost.

The Italian attacker may not have been quite as exceptional as his former teammates last term, but when he was fit and available he showed that he could be a real threat and asset in the Championship, which is what Daniel Farke needs.

With no arrivals imminent at Elland Road, Leeds need a new star player to build around over the next few months and it seems as though that man will be Gnonto unless something drastically changes in the coming days.

Hopefully, a transfer request won’t be submitted before the window slams shut at the end of August and the Whites will be able to avoid a repeat of the winger’s strike from last summer.

Keeping Gnonto alone won’t be enough to fire Leeds into the top two, however.

Farke and the 49ers are going to have to spend some money to bolster their attacking options sooner rather than later to get this promotion bid up and running.
