Wilfried Gnonto exit update drops at Elland Road as Leeds United aware of transfer interest

Leeds United are aware of interest in Wilfried Gnonto but insist nothing further has developed this summer, according to Graham Smyth.

The Yorkshire Evening Post journalist reported on Tuesday (16 July) that Everton are still admirers of the Italian winger, having tried to sign him last year and would be keen to bring him to Goodison Park.

Reports from Fabrizio Romano (15 July) suggested that the 20-year-old was keen on making the move to Merseyside this summer, with talks already taking place to understand the conditions of a potential deal.

Will Leeds United sell Wilfried Gnonto this summer amid Everton transfer interest?

The fact that Leeds United have insisted that Everton’s interest in Gnonto has not progressed further than initial admiration would suggest that the Whites don’t expect the Italian winger to depart Elland Road imminently.

With Archie Gray heading to Tottenham for a big-money fee and Glen Kamara set to join Rennes, Daniel Farke’s side are under no pressure to sell their brightest prospects as they have already raised some much-needed funds to balance the books.

Should the right offer arrive for Gnonto, maybe then Leeds would be willing to sanction his sale. But such an offer has not yet been made and until it is and a deal is agreed, the 20-year-old will still be a Leeds United player.

Hopefully, the Whites will do everything they can to try and keep the Italian international beyond the start of the Championship season, but Farke’s side will be eager to avoid a similar situation to the one they found themselves in last year.

It will be interesting to see how Everton’s interest develops throughout the transfer window.

Things can change incredibly quickly at this stage of the summer so it wouldn’t be a surprise to see an offer arrive sooner rather than later.
