Why Lukas Nmecha is increasingly likely to quit Leeds for Wrexham in January transfer window
Leeds United star Lukas Nmecha's potential move to Wrexham may be gathering pace.
Nmecha was linked with the Red Dragons in the summer, amid speculation around his deal with the Whites.
The Elland Road backup is firmly behind Dominic Calvert-Lewin and is out of contract next summer.
He has made eight appearances so far this season, for a total of 240 minutes in all competitions.
Nmecha is unlikely to force his way into the side on a regular basis, and would be free to leave the LS11 club on a pre-contract agreement as it stands.
He is attracting interest from multiple teams, but the Welsh side that play in red seems like the increasingly likely side to sign him.
Why are Wrexham the most likely option for Leeds' Lukas Nmecha?
Nmecha could depart in the January transfer window, with the Championship side wanting him, alongside Southampton and FC Koln who also have him pegged as a target.
A report from TEAMtalk claims that the German side would find his wages to be a stumbling block, though.
Tonda Eckert's side are eighth in the Championship, and only six points off the top, so they may not want to disturb a squad that is trending upwards.
That leaves Wrexham, who are struggling in 14th in the second tier, as the obvious contenders to push the boat out and try and bring Nmecha to the Racecourse Ground.
Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney will be keen to get back on track, and signing the Leeds man would be a big help to their eventual promotion ambitions.
Why Leeds exit makes sense for all parties
Nmecha has been a solid option when Daniel Farke has called upon him.
He has notched seven goals and five assists for the Whites since joining on a free transfer in the summer of 2025.
However, he is not going to get the kind of playing time that he desires, because Calvert-Lewin has been in such good form since he came to Yorkshire.
As a result, a departure makes the most sense for all parties, the Whites can look for a younger player, who is happy to sit on the bench and wait for their opportunity.
Meanwhile, Nmecha can find a starting gig, and have a secure future with a new team after a decent spell with the Peacocks.
