Leeds United are remaining patient in their efforts to sign Nico Elvedi from Borussia Monchengladbach.

The Switzerland international has been a long-term target for Daniel Farke at Elland Road.

Having worked together during the German's time at Borussia Park, that is no surprise.

The Whites are in need of defensive reinforcements, having lost Pascal Struijk to Brighton earlier in the window.

There aren't many more experienced options out there than the 29-year-old after 11 seasons as a Bundesliga regular.

Elvedi could now be on his way to Leeds, but his future depends on another deal at Elland Road.

Leeds United take step closer to Nico Elvedi transfer

A move for the defender has been on the cards for a while now in West Yorkshire.

It has been up-and-down whether it is, or isn't, going to happen.

But the deal has taken a step closer as a fee has now been agreed between Leeds and Gladbach for the centre-back's signature.

Florian Plettenberg reported on Saturday that Leeds have reached an agreement with Monchengladbach on a transfer worth £8.5million.

The deal will also include a 15 per cent sell-on clause.

Elvedi has now been left out of the German club's squad as they prepare to face Aston Villa in pre-season action on Saturday afternoon.

How can Sebastiaan Bornauw hamper Elvedi deal?

The Yorkshire outfit may have secured a price for the Swiss defender, but a deal is not concluded yet.

That is simply due to the pending exit of Sebastiaan Bornauw.

The Belgian only signed for the Whites last summer, but looks set to be on his way out.

Bornauw is being touted with a move to Hamburg, but until that happens, Leeds won't sign Elvedi.

Plettenberg covered this in the above report, saying: "It is not a done deal yet [for Elvedi]. Transfer depends on Bornauw decisions."

Leeds will now wait to see where the future of the centre-back lies before they can bring in the Farke favourite.

But everything certainly points towards this being the fourth signing of the summer at Elland Road.
