Why Leeds can still be confident of Wilfried Gnonto windfall despite Fiorentina sacking

Leeds United loanee Wilfried Gnonto is already embroiled in drama at Fiorentina.

The Serie A club had scooped up the Leeds attacker on loan with an option to buy on the final day of the transfer window.

Manager Fabio Grosso would have been hoping that Gnonto had a positive impact for his side throughout the season.

However, after Fiorentina held a meeting over Grosso's future on 6 September, a decision has been made over his future.

Gnonto's manager at the Serie A club has been sacked just three games into the season.

But, Leeds will not worry about Gnonto's involvement at the Florence-based club for one reason.

Who are Fiorentina hiring and why it matters for Leeds?

After replacing Gnonto with Jean-Matteo Bahoya on deadline day, Leeds will be hoping that the Italian's option to buy is taking up.

Strong performances and meaningful involvement will certainly help push the Serie A side in doing so, but they also need to improve their results.

After three top-flight matches, Fiorentina are rock bottom of the league, with one goal scored and nine conceded.

Results that have now meant Grosso has been let go with Paolo Vanoli set to return, as per Fabrizio Romano.

For Leeds, the return of Vanoli is excellent news, as Fiorentina had wanted to bring Gnonto to the Stadio Artemio Franchi when he was previously in charge last season.

According to Fiorentina Uno, Gnonto was a target for Vanoli's side back in the 2026 winter window.

So, despite the sacking of Grosso, there may not be as much uncertainty over Gnonto as first suspected, with perhaps the perfect outcome arising for the Whites.

Gnonto's option to buy is for a total package of £18million.

How are Leeds' other loanees getting on as early performances watched

Lucas Perri is also in the Serie A and made his Torino debut against Fiorentina over the weekend.

The Brazilian put in a solid showing, although he was at fault for Torino's only goal conceded in a 2-1 win.

Joel Piroe has started well with West Ham, scoring twice in his first four Championship appearances for the Hammers.

The East Londoners have won three of their last four in all competitions as their form has taken an upwards trajectory.

For Leeds, that is important as Piroe's loan will become permanent should West Ham get promoted.

Largie Ramazani has yet to win a game with Burnley, after a draw against Middlesbrough and loss versus Bristol City.

Meanwhile, Sebaastien Bournauw's Hamburg have conceded seven goals in two league matches.

Overall, it is a mixed bag for those out on loan.
