Why Hull City are now back in the hunt to sign Joe Gelhardt from Leeds United
Leeds United striker Joe Gelhardt might end up signing permanently for Hull City after all.
The 24-year-old's exit from Elland Road is fast becoming a matter of when not if during the summer transfer window.
Gelhardt joined Leeds back in August 2020 and there were high hopes he would become a big player for the Whites.
However, he has never really got going consistently in a Whites shirt, and has had loan spells with Sunderland and Hull (twice).
Indeed, last term he scored 15 goals in 42 Championship appearances to fire Hull back to the Premier League.
It looked as though the Tigers might not pursue a full deal, but a new report has explained the change in thinking.
What caused Hull City rethink on Leeds United ace Joe Gelhardt?
Championship big-spenders Wrexham have most recently been linked with a move for Gelhardt.
Birmingham City have also reportedly been following the situation, as Hull apparently cooled their interest.
However, it was reported on Tuesday that Hull were back in the race to sign Gelhardt from Leeds.
BBC Radio Humberside sports editor Mike White has now provided more details on what sparked a turnaround on Gelhardt, who Jamie Carragher once described as a "special talent".
White took to X to report that Gelhardt returning to MKM Stadium was now "back on the table".
He said there was uncertainty from within the club as to whether Gelhardt could make an impact in the Premier League for Hull.
However, Tigers manager Sergej Jakirovic has pushed for talks to happen, and is keen for him to return.
It looks as though the Hull boss' intervention might prove a big sway in the race for Gelhardt.
Who else could leave Leeds United this summer?
Gelhardt is not the only one looking likely to head for the exit door this summer.
Centre-back Sebastiaan Bornauw looks likely to join Hamburg imminently, despite only moving to Elland Road last summer.
Largie Ramazani is back from a loan spell at Valencia but is not in Daniel Farke's plans is likely to find a new home.
Goalkeeper Lucas Perri also looks certain to depart, with a move to Torino thought to be happening when he recovers from a small injury.
