Why Harry Gray's Leeds United loan exit matters more than you think as agreement close

Harry Gray is close to leaving Leeds United for another spell on loan in a move that should benefit all three parties involved.

After spending the second half of last season on loan with Rotherham United, Gray now looks set to join Sheffield Wednesday.

The 17-year-old scored three times in 20 League One appearances, but he could not prevent his side from being relegated.

Gray has made just one senior appearance for Leeds so far, but there are high hopes for his future in West Yorkshire.

In the view of some, he could match or even surpass what his brother - Archie - achieved prior to joining Tottenham Hotspur.

As the teenage forward prepares to embark on a season away from Elland Road, the move could matter more than supporters think.

Gray is not only the brother of Archie, but also the son of Andy Gray, grandson of Frank Gray and great nephew of Eddie Gray.

It is fair to say Leeds United runs in the family, and it the Gray trend at Elland Road should live on for many years yet.

But if that is to happen, Harry knows he needs to prove he is capable of making an impact.

Graham Smyth reports via Yorkshire Evening Post on Wednesday that Gray's loan move to Sheffield Wednesday is now close to going through.

Gray did not exactly light up the third tier last season, but that raw edge he possesses is to be expected of a player so young.

Given he will be 19 next year, Gray is not far off potentially pushing for a first-team place at Leeds.

A loan move to Hillsborough, at a team that should be competing at the top end of the division, provides a platform to showcase those talents.

Fans will be keeping a close eye on his developments in the hope that, like his brother, he is integrated into the side at a young age.

Archie Gray assessment of brother Archie is very exciting

Speaking to Tottenham's official website last year, Archie said his brother was born to score goals.

“He's always been a striker, always been scoring goals, so hopefully he can keep doing that," Gray added.

"We always used to just kick lumps out of each other when we were in the garden. It would always end in tears but we loved every minute of it and it’s going to be weird, especially if he’s on the bench.

Gray caught the eye at age-grade level for Leeds and is now on course to being fast-tracked towards the first team.

Should he be a hit at Sheffield Wednesday, it may well be that this time next year he is too valuable to loan out again.
