Who is Leo Scienza? Leeds target went from Swedish fifth tier to Premier League dream
Leeds United have quickly become a possible destination for Leo Scienza this summer.
The Brazilian ripped apart the Championship last term, scoring seven goals and assisting a further nine.
Southampton would fail to win promotion though, after being kicked out of the play-offs as a result of their spying saga.
As a result, the 27-year-old is someone who could be on his way out for a discounted fee this summer.
With this in mind, MOT Leeds News takes a look at what there is to know about the electric wideman.
Leo Scienza's route to Southampton was anything but normal
Born in Brazil, Scienza spent time in the youth ranks at Chapecoensde and Defensor Sporting, before starting his senior career with regional league side Lajeadense.
After his father died on his 20th birthday, he would move to Sweden believing he had been offered a route into professional football - instead ending up at Fanna BK in the Swedish fifth tier.
Scoring goals in Sweden, Scienza earned a move to Schalke 04 in Germany, where he worked his way through German football from the second team.
After loan spells with Magdeburg and Ulm, he would become one of the standout players in the 3. Liga, earning promotion with Ulm and a move to Bundesliga side Heidenheim.
That year, he would come up with some spectacular moments as Frank Schmidt's side survived in the play-off - Scienza scoring a stoppage time winner against Elversberg.
Southampton would bring him to England and then that was it, a fantastic journey reached a level where he is now being tipped for a Premier League move at the age of 27 - seven years on from what could have been the end of his footballing career.
Leo Scienza and Leeds would go hand in hand
If he were to move this summer, Leeds would be a fantastic destination.
If there is one things that fans love at Elland Road, it is a character, and the Brazilian is most certainly one.
Incredibly exciting to watch, Scienza is a magician with the ball at his feet, while he is an incredibly humble person away from the pitch after his incredible journey to where he is.
His story would be appreciated by any fanbase, but maybe just that little bit more with Leeds, if he were to arrive and treat the club as a final destination, not just a stepping stone.
He is the type of player to get Elland Road bouncing, and the Whites fanbase is the perfect one to take such a character to heart.
