Leeds United have interest in Sassuolo's Tarik Muharemovic as they seek a replacement for Pascal Struijk.

The Whites reluctantly agreed to let Struijk depart for Premier League rivals Brighton earlier in the window.

Leeds wanted to tie Struijk down to a new contract, with his deal expiring in 2027.

However, the Dutch defender wanted a new challenge, so a £20million deal was agree with the Seagulls.

It leaves Leeds needing reinforcement at centre-back, with Joe Rodon, Jaka Bijol, and Sebastiaan Bornauw their current options.

Muharemovic, who has 17 caps for Bosnia and Herzegovina, is seemingly on their radar, but here are some things Leeds fans need to know.

Fabrizio Romano shares Tarik Muharemovic clause news

Prominent Italian journalist Fabrizio Romano shared news of Leeds interest in Muharemovic on his official X account.

He noted how his former club Juventus, who have been linked with a move, have a decision to make on a deal as they own a 50 per cent sell-on clause.

Romano added how fellow Premier League clubs Sunderland and Bournemouth have called to ask about the availability of Muharemovic.

He said that Leeds have entered the race for the 23-year-old, who has impressed in his two seasons with Sassuolo in Serie A.

Graham Smyth provides futher Tarik Muharemovic update

If Leeds fans were hoping for a positive outcome on Muharemovic, they might have to tempter their expectations slightly.

Yorkshire Evening Post reporter Graham Smyth later shared that Leeds have interest in the "aerially dominant" defender.

However, he says that - as things stands - their pursuit has not gone any further than the initial interest.

Moreover, he says that the deal would be a difficult one to complete given others in the race are able to offer Muharemovic more.

One thing is for sure, and that is the fact Leeds badly need reinforcement in the centre of defence.

Even before Struijk was sold, there was a need to add more options given Bornauw has yet to really convince he can be a regular Premier League performer.

There is still plenty of time to add reinforcements at centre-back of course, but they need to weigh up quickly whether a move for Muharemovic can happen.

If it cannot, then Leeds have to move on quickly to other targets who can strengthen their defensive ranks.
