What Ruben Amorim has planned as Leeds United pursue Yunus Musah deal

Published on

Leeds United's hopes of landing Yunus Musah from AC Milan may depend on old enemy Ruben Amorim.

The United States international has spent the past three years at San Siro, albeit with one of those out on loan with Atalanta.

Musah's Milan career has never truly taken off, but a change of manager in the dugout may benefit the versatile midfielder.

Amorim - sacked by Manchester United on the back of a draw with Leeds last season - was brought in at the Rossoneri last month to replace Massimiliano Allegri.

And the Portuguese will have the final say on what happens with Musah amid the interest from Leeds.

Fresh update emerges on Leeds interest in Yunus Musah

Musah is able to play in a number of midfield and attacking positions, with that versatility likely what makes Daniel Farke such a big fan.

The 23-year-old once described himself as a "complete midfielder" in terms of what he is capable of.

However, Musah has struggled to really prove himself at the Serie A heavyweights.

A move elsewhere could do him good, with respected journalist Carlo Pellegatti reporting on his YouTube channel that Leeds are after Musah.

"Musah is being closely watched by Ruben Amorim, who hopes to find a place for him," Pellegatti added.

"He's a player who could have some interesting facets that Milan perhaps haven't been able to grasp.

"However, the fact that he played so little for Milan, and especially for Atalanta, clearly makes us think that we should hope that Amorim manages to see something in him because up until now he's shown very little. He's a completely ordinary player."

That is a rather damning assessment, and does make you wonder exactly why Leeds are interested if he's struggled so much in Italy.

Method to the madness behind Musah links

Going back to those previous quotes from Musah in 2023, he certainly talks a good game.

"I like to do a bit of everything," Musah said. "I like to drop back, carry the ball forward while dribbling, be aggressive in defence.

"I like being a midfielder who does a bit of everything. I believe I have the power to carry the ball forward."

Musah's ability to operate in multiple positions is another massive box ticked, but the truth is he has simply not found any rhythm in Italy.

There is clearly a talented player in there, though, and if Amorim doesn't want him, Milan's loss could be Leeds' gain.
