What Leeds' net summer spend will be if they complete Tarik Muharemovic signing as 'decisive' negotiations underway
Leeds United are edging closer to the signing of Sassuolo's Tarik Muharemovic.
The Whites have made signing a new centre-back a priority after losing Pascal Struijk to Brighton.
The Dutchman joined the Seagulls in a package deal worth around £18million as he expressed his desire to leave Elland Road while entering the final 12 months of his deal.
While Daniel Farke was sad to see the 26-year-old leave, Paraag Marathe and Co. have worked quick to identify Muharemovic as the player they want as his replacement.
The club have had to battle against the likes of Juventus and Bournemouth for the Bosnia and Herzegovina centre-back, who impressed at the World Cup this summer.
Now, Leeds look to be entering the final stages of a deal to sign Muharemovic ahead of competitors.
Leeds work to finalise Tarik Muharemovic in 'decisive hours' of deal
MOT Leeds News understands that Leeds have reached an agreement on personal terms for Muharemovic, with other details still needed for the transfer to go through.
Perhaps the biggest hurdle in this saga is Juventus, who own a 50 per cent sell-on clause for the player.
The Italian giants have been mulling over whether to move for their former player for obvious financial and footballing reasons, though it appears the Whites are ahead of them in the race for his signature.
Tuttomercatoweb journalist Marco Conterio has shared an update on X this Tuesday, which states the Whites are in the "decisive hours" to reach an agreement for Muharemovic.
Negotiations are said to be underway for a fee in the region of £29.8m and £34m.
It feels like if the Whites can agree terms with Sassuolo, they may have no issues with wrapping up the deal.
Marathe previously stated that Leeds would assess the transfer window carefully this summer, and Muharemovic's potential arrival would be an interesting discussion from a financial standpoint.
What Leeds' summer net spend could be after Muharemovic deal
Leeds have been active in the transfer market this summer, but Muharemovic would be the first signing that costs a transfer fee for the 49ers.
Harry Wilson arrived as a free transfer for the Whites, but it's their outgoings that are also important.
Karl Darlow and Illan Meslier both left the club upon the expiration of their respective contracts, but their exit's, as well as Wilson's arrival have had no effect on net spending.
Let's say Leeds were to get the best deal possible for Muharemovic and sign him for £29.8m, Struijk's £18m sale would leave the Whites with a positive net spend of £14.8m, here's why.
Struijk was sold for an initial fee of £15m, which only reaches £18m if certain add-ons are met.
This means the immediate transfer of Muharemovic would take the net spend to a positive £14.8m. If add-ons were hypothetically achieved instantly, somehow, it would be lowered to £11.8m.
It's nothing major, especially when considering the likes of Joel Piroe, Wilfried Gnonto and others are expected to be offloaded.
However, it will be in the back of Marathe and Co's. minds that overspending will come with potential issues.
